What people record here

Commercials and promos

Radio and TV spots, social ads, brand films and trailer reads. Short scripts, a lot of takes, and an engineer marking the keepers as you go.

Film and TV voiceover

Narration, character voiceover and dialogue pickups for independent films, documentaries and series. Bring the cut on your own device and record against it.

Narration and audiobooks

Long-form reads, e-learning and corporate narration. The same room and the same mic position every visit, so chapter ten matches chapter one.

Directed sessions

Your director, producer or client listens in and gives notes over a video call while the engineer records the clean take here in the room.

the rainforest room

A vocal room and a chain built for the human voice

A lush, plant-filled vocal room with treated walls and a warm signal chain that flatters everything from belt-to-the-rafters pop to hushed late-night raps. It’s the same room and the same signal chain our singers record through, which is why a spoken read comes back sounding finished.

  • Manley Reference Gold

Tube condenser. The first choice for most voices.

  • Shure SM7B

The broadcast standard, for a tighter, closer read.

  • API 512c Preamps

Clean gain with a little punch.

  • Neve 1073

    The warmer, fuller alternative.

  • Tube-Tech CL 1B

Gentle levelling on the way in, so takes sit evenly.

  • UAD Apollo x8p + x16

Converters into Pro Tools, Logic or Ableton.

before you book

Direction, picture and files

What the room does and what it doesn’t, so there are no surprises on the day.

Remote direction

Directors and clients can join by video call (Zoom works) and hear takes as they happen. Tell us when you book so the engineer has it routed before you arrive.

Source-Connect

We don't hold a Source-Connect license. If your production has an account, bring the login and we'll run the session through it on our machine.

Recording to picture

There's no picture monitor in the booth. Actors follow the scene on their own phone, tablet or laptop. That suits voiceover, narration and dialogue pickups; a frame-locked ADR stage with streamers is a different kind of room.

Your files

Tell us the sample rate, bit depth and file naming your editor or post house wants and the engineer sets the session up to match. You leave with the files at the end of the session.

music for picture

Sync and trailer music gets made here too

In October 2026 we sponsored Level Up’s songwriting camp. Their writers spent the camp at Paradise writing and recording music for film and trailer sync. If your project needs the voice and the music recorded in the same place, both happen under one roof.

Voiceover studio questions

How much does it cost to record voiceover at Paradise?
Voiceover is priced like any recording session: $160 for 2 hours with our engineer, which is $80 an hour, up to $850 for a 12-hour day. If you bring your own engineer it is $40 an hour with a 2-hour minimum, or a flat $400 for a 12-hour day. There is no setup fee and no engineer surcharge.
Is an engineer included?
Yes, on every recording session. The engineer sets the mic and levels, runs the session, marks the takes and exports your files. The $40-an-hour Rent the Room booking is the one without a staff engineer: your own engineer runs our gear.
Do you have Source-Connect?
We don't hold our own Source-Connect license. If your production or agency has an account, bring the login and we can run the session through it on our machine. Otherwise your director can join by video call, and the clean recording is made here in the room either way.
Can you record ADR or dialogue to picture?
For pickups, wild lines and voiceover against a cut, yes. There is no picture monitor in the booth, so the actor follows the scene on their own phone, tablet or laptop while the engineer records. If your project needs a full ADR stage with on-screen streamers and frame-locked playback, a dedicated post house is the better fit.
Can my director or client listen in remotely?
Yes. They can join over a video call such as Zoom, hear each take and give notes in real time. Let us know when you book so the engineer has the call routed before the session starts.
What microphones do you use for voiceover?
A Manley Reference Gold tube condenser for most voices, or a Shure SM7B when a read wants a tighter broadcast sound. They run through API 512c or Neve 1073 preamps and a Tube-Tech CL 1B into UAD Apollo converters.
Can I record an audiobook here?
Yes. Long-form narration is usually booked as a run of sessions. If you know you need 15 hours or more, bulk hours bring the rate with our engineer down to $70/hr, and the hours never expire.
What do I get at the end of the session?
Your recorded files, exported to the spec you give us. If you want the takes edited, cleaned up or mixed against music, ask when you book and we'll quote it alongside the session.
Where are you and is there parking?
1505 4th St, Suite 219, in downtown Santa Monica, two blocks off the Third Street Promenade. There is street and structure parking around the block, and the studio is one flight up with no elevator. We are open 9 am to 2 am every day.

Recording a show rather than a script? The podcast studio is the same room with an operator and up to three mics.
